General Parking Regulations

  • Parking is specifically prohibited in handicap spaces except for vehicles with appropriate handicap designators displayed. This section is enforced 7 days per week, 24 hours per day.
  • Parking is permitted in a designated parking space only.
  • Parking is not permitted along any red curbing, fire lane, or any place other than designated parking spaces.
  • Motorcycles, motor-driven cycles, mopeds, and motorized bicycles are prohibited from parking at bicycle racks.
  • Loading zones are for loading and unloading only and the time should not exceed posted limits.
  • The Shasta College campus is closed each night from 11:00 pm to 6:00 am. No overnight parking of vehicles will be permitted on campus unless a permit is obtained, in advance, from Campus Safety. Vehicles left on campus, even with a permit, are left at the owner / operator’s own risk and may be towed at the owner’s expense.
  • Vehicles parked in metered spaces are subject to being cited at intervals that correspond with the time limit of the specific meter. (Example: a 120-minute limit parking meter, in a void mode, may result in a citation after each 120-minute period.)
  • Parking at any time beyond the time limit, in a time-controlled zone is unlawful.
  • Parking at any time in violation of any posted sign is unlawful.
  • Vehicles must be parked entirely within the marked single parking space being used.
  • Camping or residing in a motor vehicle on District property is prohibited, unless specifically authorized by the Director of Campus Safety.

Availability of Parking Space

Responsibility for finding a legal parking space, as well as finding out where and when a parking permit is valid, rests with the motor vehicle operator. Purchase of a parking permit does not guarantee a space to park. Lack of a parking space within a specific lot, mechanical problems, or other disabilities, are not considered valid justification for violation of District parking regulations. Personal notes are not considered valid authorization to park in violation of District parking regulations.

Fines for Illegal Parking

The minimum fine for illegal parking in a handicap space is $275. The fine for all other parking violations is $25 each. Failure to pay a fine or submit a “Request for Administrative Review” form, within the designated time may cause a penalty to be added to the fine and a “hold” to be placed on the vehicle registration by the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV).

Do I have to buy a permit to park at Shasta College?
A vehicle must be registered if you park in any parking space Monday through Thursday, between 8:00 am and 10:00 pm, or 8:00 am to 5:00 pm on Fridays. Register your vehicle through the Parking Portal each semester or purchase a daily permit from the pay stations located in the North, South or Tehama parking areas. The cost of a daily permit is $2 and is valid for the day of purchase.

Do I have to buy a permit if I drive a moped or motorcycle to school?
Yes, Mopeds and motorcycles may park in designated motorcycles parking areas or a regular parking space when you register your vehicle. 

If I own more than one car, do I have to buy more than one permit?
You may register up to two (2) license plates under the same permit. Only one of those vehicles is allowed on campus each day.

Where can visitors park?
Visitors may park in designated visitor parking areas for 30 minutes free of charge or pay to park in the other areas or the student parking lots.

I am handicapped and I have a valid DMV Handicap placard. Do I have to buy a permit if I am a student or employee of Shasta College?
No. Vehicles displaying valid DMV Handicap placards or license plates may park on the Shasta College campus without registering the vehicle or paying to park.

I have a leg cast from an accident right now. Can I park in handicapped parking?
You may obtain a temporary handicap placard from DMV which will allow you to park in handicap parking. Contact the DMV office to determine what is required to obtain the placard.

If I want to contest a citation I received, can I communicate with someone on campus?
Contact Campus Safety if you have any questions regarding a parking citation. To contest a citation, visit the Parking Portal, under your account, select Citations. Submit the appeal within 21 calendar days from the issuance of the citation, or 10 days from the mailing of the Notice of Delinquent Parking Violation. After 21 days, you may lose the right to an appeal.

Can I get a refund on my permit if my educational plans change?
The semester parking registration fee is refundable (less a 10% handling fee) within the first three weeks of each semester during regular business hours at the Business Services.
