Emergency Aid Application for Students

Starting Fall 2021, the Shasta College Financial Aid Office will accept applications for emergency aid, funded by Federal COVID stimulus funds. In Fall 2021, the eligibility criteria for these funds are that a student must be enrolled in at least 3 units in Fall 2021 and must NOT have already received a Fall 2021 emergency student aid grant funded by COVID stimulus funds.

Housing Offers and Support

Many generous colleagues have offered space in their homes for the faculty and staff who have been displaced by the fires. If you have room or a part of your home that you would be willing to open to one of our displaced employees and their families, please contact Human Resources at hr@shastacollege.edu or (530) 242-7640. Human Resources staff will work with you to find a suitable match, including number of family members, accepting pets, etc.


Disaster Relief

Local Assistance Center

A Local Assistance Center (LAC) will be opening to provide recovery assistance services to residents impacted by the Fawn Fire. It will be open Friday, October 8 through Monday, October 11 at the Shasta Lake Community Center, 4499 Main Street, in the City of Shasta Lake. The LAC will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily.

The Local Assistance Center is a one-stop-shop for recovery assistance. The purpose of the Local Assistance Center is to assist communities by providing a centralized location for services and resource referrals for unmet needs following a disaster or significant emergency. Representatives from various local, state and federal agencies will provide counseling support, resource and housing assistance, information to aid in rebuilding, permitting, hazardous materials clean-up, loss of business or employment, basic health and human services, and other topics. Service providers will include:

  • Shasta County Health & Human Services Agency
  • Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV)
  • California Department of Insurance (CDI)
  • Contractors State License Board (CSLB)
  • Employment Development Department (EDD)
  • California Department of Public Health – Vital Records (CDPH)
  • Franchise Tax Board (FTB)
  • Various private non-profits

What documents should I bring to the Local Assistance Center (LAC)?

If you have, it is recommended that you bring: –a photo ID,–household income information–insurance documents . *DMV is also available to issue duplicates of Photo IDs and driver license.

Also, California Employment Development Department (EDD), provides temporary unemployment benefits to people whose jobs or work hours were directly impacted by the fires. Affected individuals are encouraged to apply here https://www.edd.ca.gov/Unemployment/UI_Online.htm. Claimants can also file by phone at 1-800-300-5616 (English) or 1-800-326-8937 (Spanish).

For the safety of the public and staff, the Local Assistance Center will have health and safety protocols in place to protect from the spread of COVID-19. These protocols will include social distancing and required use of face coverings for all staff and public entering the facility.

CTA (California Teachers Association) Disaster Relief Fund

The CTA Disaster Relief Fund is a separate, special fund for members of CTA through voluntary contributions from CTA members, and through CTA fundraising drives throughout the year. The fund, administered by CTA Member Benefits Department, is endowed to provide financial assistance to CTA members who have experienced significant losses due to natural or other disasters in California.

United Way of Northern California  2021 Wildfire Assistance Program 

This is a pre-application intake form for immediate relief assistance as a result of the 2021 Northern California fires in one of these nine (9) counties: Butte, Glenn, Lassen, Modoc, Plumas, Shasta, Siskiyou, Tehama, and Trinity. Assistance is provided one (1) time per household, if multiple families (i.e. roommates) live within the same home/property, you may need to discuss with your housemates how to divide the relief funds. Financial relief is up to $500 per household that has sustained 50% or more damage. The residence must be your primary residence. Applications may take up to 3 weeks to process. In order to process your application, we will need a copy of your ID. If your ID does not have your disaster impacted address (pre-dating the time of the fire), we will need some form of address verification. This may be a utility bill, deed, invoice, lease, W2, paystub or anything else with both your name and address.
