STEP-UP: Rising Scholars Juvenile Justice Program
What is Rising Scholars?
The Shasta College Rising Scholars Juvenile Justice program aims to expand and increase access for justice-impacted youth to community college courses that lead to degrees or certificates that result in enhanced workforce skills or transfer to a four-year institution. Our program provides college courses offered both within juvenile facilities, on one of Shasta College’s four campuses, and online to establish a direct pathway to college for juvenile justice-impacted youth. The Rising Scholars Juvenile Justice program is a partnership between the County Office of Education and Juvenile Probation Offices in each of our three counties. Our mission is to support students both in custody and during the reentry process after release. The Rising Scholars program provides access to student support programs with academic, administrative, basic needs, and limited financial aid support for justice-impacted juvenile students who are part of the juvenile justice system.
